PM reaffirms water network expansion

TABORA: PRIME Minister, Kassim Majaliwa said yesterday that the government is committed to ensuring implementation of all development projects as stipulated in the ruling party CCM’s 2020-2025 election manifesto.
The Premier said President Samia Suluhu Hassan is doing everything in her capacity to ensure social services reach all Tanzanians.
He was speaking during his ongoing working tour in Tabora, where among other things, he laid foundation stones for the expansion of Lake Victoria water network project from Ziba to Nkinga as well as from Makomero to Mgongoro in Igunga District.
The Premier said Ziba – Nkinga water project which worth 2.49bn/- is expected to supply clean water to 32,979 people in the area. According to Mr Majaliwa, the government is working hard to ensure water is available to all citizens by 100 per cent.
“This project is a result of the implementation of CCM’s election manifesto. Be assured that President Samia is a leader who cares for you, loves you and listens to your challenges. I urge you to continue performing your duties properly because we have a strong leader,” said the Premier.
Moreover, he called upon Tanzanians to protect the environment and water sources so that they can be used to provide sustainable water services.
He said: “The government has increased the budget so that the Ministry of Water can extend water supply network to rural areas.
The goal is to ensure all citizens have an access to water in all areas.” The water project from Makomero to Mgongoro has cost 840.8m/- and is expected to serve approximately 5,400 residents. residents. The project is 80 per cent complete and includes the construction of six water collection points, renovation of six water collection points, renovation of two livestock watering troughs, digging trenches for pipe installation and covering 25,000 metres of trenches.
In another development, Mr Majaliwa has instructed Igunga District Council Director to ensure the allocation of 50m/- for the construction of a health centre in Mwamayoka village in Igunga District.
“Make sure you start the construction of the health centre in this area. It is not right for the residents to walk approximately 20 kilometres to access services,” he said.
Inspecting the business stalls built by the Igunga District Council, the Premier urged the Council officials to find a good way to ensure that the traders benefit from the business. He said: “I greatly congratulate you for the decision to build these stalls. This is a significant step that will enable our traders to have secure places to conduct their business.
But look at your system, find a way to establish a good procedure for distributing them to the traders.”
For his part, the Minister for Water, Mr Jumaa Aweso said that his docket will continue ensuring that water availability improves to reach more citizens.
He urged the project supervisors to ensure fairness and avoid overcharging the citizens for water bills.
