NZEGA: PRIME Minister Kassim Majaliwa has directed Local Government Authorities (LGAs) to ensure all ongoing development projects are completed by August this year.
He stressed that the timely completion of the projects is crucial for the effective implementation of the ruling party’s 2020- 2025 election manifesto.
The Premier also noted that the government is obligated to report back to the citizens on the progress of development projects carried out in the span of five years. “We were entrusted with the responsibility to lead this country.
Through our party’s manifesto, we made promises to the people, and it is our duty to deliver on those promises and report back to the citizens,” he said. Mr Majaliwa was speaking in Nzega District, immediately after inaugurating Nzega Bus Stand.
He stressed on accountability and transparency for proper execution of quality and value for money projects. The Premier highlighted various government-led projects currently underway, urging leaders to use media platforms to publicise their progress.
“District Directors must collaborate with heads of departments to actively inform the public about the development initiatives being undertaken,” he said.
He added that citizens have the rights to get information on how their resources are being utilised.
Mr Majaliwa asked LGAs officials and community leaders to prioritise petty traders when allocating trading booths at public places like bus stands, citing Dodoma as a good example in considering petty traders during the allocation of business areas.
“We have seen great progress in Dodoma, where economic activities are thriving at bus stands, and I wish to see the same initiatives at the Nzega Bus Stand,” he noted.

The Premier also directed petty traders across the country to visit financial institutions and seek loans to boost their businesses. On education, Mr Majaliwa reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving learning facilities and expanding access to education.
He stated that the government has already constructed various schools to ensure that all children have access to primary and secondary education.
“The construction of schools is in line with the recruitment of new teachers to ensure provision of quality and standard education to children,” he explained.
Mr Majaliwa urged parents and guardians to take full advantage of the enhanced education system by enrolling their children in school.
He stressed that ensuring their children receive an education is not only a fundamental right but also a responsibility that lies with every parent.
Earlier, the Premier said the government is actively implementing strategic initiatives to ensure the sustainability and productivity of the livestock sector in the country.
He was speaking after laying a foundation stone for the construction of Seif Gulamali Secondary School in Igunda District, Tabora Region. He stressed that the livestock sector is not only a vital component of the economy but also a significant business that provides employment opportunities.
“We encourage livestock keepers to prioritise their activities in this sector, as it is essential for the economy, a source of livelihood, and a key part of daily life.
Similarly, farmers should continue to cultivate their land so we can achieve food security and increase the production of cash crops. It is vital that both livestock keepers and farmers collaborate and understand one another,” said Mr Majaliwa.
According to the 2023/2024 Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries budget speech, the livestock population in the country increased from 36.6 million cattle in 2022/2023 financial year to 37.9 million in 2023/2024 financial year , goats from 26.6 million to 27.6 million, and from 9.1 million sheep to 9.4 million.
The number of chickens also surged from 52.9 million to 55.7 million, while the pig population increased from 3.7 million to 3.9 million. Member of Parliament for Nzega Rural Constituency, Dr Hamis Kigwangala expressed his support for the significant progress being made across various sectors under the leadership of President Samia Suluhu Hassan.
He commended the government’s dedication to driving development, highlighting that the residents of Nzega are fully aware of the government’s commitment to fulfilling its promises.
