PM Majaliwa highlights key achievements in Rungwa District
LINDI: PRIME Minister Kassim Majaliwa has stated that Ruangwa District has made significant strides in development, enabling its residents to actively participate in various economic activities.
Mr Majaliwa, who doubles as Parliamentarian for Ruangwa Constituency, noted that the district previously faced numerous challenges in sectors such as education, health, agriculture, infrastructure—including roads, water, electricity, investment and even sports.
“These challenges inspired us to adopt the slogan ‘Ruangwa for Development is Possible,’ and now it has become a reality.”
He made these remarks over the weekend while addressing hundreds of residents of Mbekenyera village in Ruangwa District, Lindi Region.
The Prime Minister highlighted President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan’s significant contribution to the district’s development, particularly through the financial support that has facilitated the implementation of various strategic projects.
Speaking about the education sector, Mr Majaliwa said that previously, only a few of the district’s 90 villages had primary schools.
However, every village now has its own primary school, with ongoing efforts to establish schools in hamlets.
“Regarding secondary schools, we have completed constructing secondary schools in all wards of this district. Currently, our focus is on building additional schools in densely populated wards.
Here in Mbekenyera, we initially had one divisional school, but after observing overcrowding, we constructed another school at Mkutingombe,” he explained.
In the health sector, Mr Majaliwa highlighted significant improvements, including the construction of dispensaries, health centres, and a district hospital capable of offering specialised medical services.
He also noted advancements in road infrastructure, revealing that several paved roads are under construction. “We have ongoing projects, including a road from Masasi to Kiranjeranje.

Touching on agriculture, water, and investment, Mr Majaliwa pointed out that substantial progress has been made, with the government continuing to implement sustainable strategies in these sectors.
“In the energy sector, we have electrified all villages, and we are now expanding connections to smaller sub-villages. Dear citizens, the power lines have reached you—it’s now your turn to connect electricity to your homes.”
