PM in Paris for UNESCO-backed World Kiswahili Day celebrations

PARIS: PRIME Minister Mwigulu Nchemba has arrived in Paris, France, today, July 6, 2026, to represent President Samia Suluhu Hassan at the World Kiswahili Day celebrations to be held at the headquarters of UNESCO.
Upon his arrival, the Prime Minister was received by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, Tanzania’s Ambassador to France, Saidi Othman Yakubu, and other embassy officials.

The annual celebrations bring together governments, language experts and cultural stakeholders to promote Kiswahili as a global language and strengthen international cooperation through language and culture.
During the event, Tanzania is expected to reaffirm its leading role in the promotion, preservation and internationalisation of Kiswahili while showcasing the language’s contribution to cultural diplomacy and global engagement.
