PM hails construction of Nyathorogo Bridge as a key project for Rorya and Tarime districts

RORYA: PRIME Minister Mwigulu Nchemba has inspected the Nyathorogo River Bridge in Nyathorogo Village, Rorya District, describing it as a key infrastructure project improving transport and connectivity between Rorya and Tarime districts.

During his working visit to Mara Region today, July 2, 2026, Dr Nchemba received a progress report on the project from Rorya District TARURA Manager Engineer Elifadhili Moses.

According to the report, the bridge was constructed at a cost of 729.2m/-, with works commencing on August 1, 2025 and completing on February 28, 2026.

Presenting the report, Engineer Moses said the project utilised stone-based construction technology, which reduced costs by more than 50 percent compared to the initial design.

He added that the government has allocated funds in the 2026/2027 financial year for the construction of protective embankments to safeguard the bridge from water damage.

Rorya MP Jafari Chege said the bridge has ended long-standing hardships faced by residents of Rorya and Tarime, who previously crossed the Nyathorogo River under dangerous conditions that sometimes resulted in accidents and loss of lives.

He added that the new infrastructure has strengthened communication between the two districts and improved access to social services and economic activities, contributing to local development and easing movement for residents.
