PM calls on MPs to support, approve Ndejembi as Tanzania’s Vice-President
DODOMA: PRIME Minister Mwigulu Nchemba has urged Members of Parliament to support and approve the appointment of Deogratius Ndejembi as Vice-President of the United Republic of Tanzania, saying he possesses the qualifications, experience and capacity needed to assist President Samia Suluhu Hassan in carrying out government responsibilities.
Dr Nchemba made the appeal today, August 28, 2026, in Parliament in Dodoma, saying the position of Vice-President requires a leader who is wise, hardworking, understands the government system and has a clear understanding of the needs of the people.
“I have no doubt that we have found the right person to assist the President in carrying out the responsibilities of running the Government,” Dr Nchemba said.
He said Ndejembi has held various leadership and government positions, giving him experience across several sectors of national importance.
According to the Prime Minister, Ndejembi is also not new to the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), noting that since entering Parliament in 2020 as the Member of Parliament for Chamwino, he has continued to earn the trust of the leadership and has been entrusted with various responsibilities.
Dr Nchemba said Ndejembi’s public service career has enabled him to gain experience in government affairs and in representing the interests of citizens, while his strong educational background has further prepared him to discharge the responsibilities assigned to him.

“Given his extensive experience with the government system and his understanding of the needs of the people, I believe he is well suited to be an important assistant to the President,” the Prime Minister said.
Dr Nchemba also stressed the importance of the Vice-President’s role in the functioning of the Government, citing Article 47(1) of the Constitution of the United Republic of Tanzania, which designates the Vice-President as the Principal Assistant to the President in all matters of the Union.
He further referred to Article 47(8), which provides that the Vice-President exercises his or her powers under the direction and supervision of the President and is responsible for matters assigned by the President.
The Prime Minister made the appeal during Parliament’s process of approving the appointment of a new Vice-President, in accordance with Article 50(4) of the Constitution of the United Republic of Tanzania.
The provision sets out the procedure for the President to appoint another person as Vice-President when the office falls vacant, with the appointment subject to approval by Parliament.
Dr Nchemba therefore urged MPs to support Ndejembi’s appointment, maintaining that his qualifications and broad experience make him a suitable choice to assist President Samia Suluhu Hassan in carrying out the responsibilities of leading the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania.
