PM calls for faith-led action to safeguard peace
DODOMA: PRIME Minister Dr Mwigulu Nchemba has pledged that the government will remain a close partner to religious leaders in building a nation founded on love, justice and accountability.
Speaking during Sunday Mass at the Anglican Church in Dodoma yesterday, Dr Nchemba said faith leaders have a vital role in shaping the character of the people.
“We all know that religious institutions have a noble obligation to preach and teach moral values such as love, perseverance and mutual respect, which are foundational pillars of the nation,” Dr Nchemba said.
He said the government recognises and appreciates the significant contributions made by faith institutions, including the Anglican Church, in strengthening peace, moral conduct and national unity.
Referring to Sunday Mass, Dr Nchemba said it is an important day for Christians to engage in spiritual self-reflection, strengthen their relationship with God and learn the right ways of leading faith-guided lives at family, community and national levels.
He added that Sunday worship serves as a reminder for Tanzanians to embrace humility, justice, accountability and love for one another.
In a related development, the Prime Minister noted that Tanzania has remained a symbol of peace, unity and solidarity in the East African region.
“Peace does not come by chance; it is the result of deliberate collective efforts by the government, faith institutions, families and citizens at large,” he said.
Dr Nchemba urged believers to translate religious teachings into their daily lives, thereby contributing to the building of a prosperous nation that upholds the rule of law, hard work and peace.

“A true faith should be reflected through actions,” he said.
Furthermore, he called on the faithful to continue serving as ambassadors of peace in their families, workplaces and communities by condemning hatred, division and chaos.
Earlier, the Bishop of the Anglican Church of Tanzania’s Diocese of Central Tanganyika, Dr Dickson Chilongani, commended the government for its commitment to ensuring lasting peace in the country.
He said peace is essential for the smooth implementation of socioeconomic activities.
