PM blesses Scientific Conference with call to invest in beneficial research

DAR ES SALAAM: RESEARCHERS and policymakers have been urged to invest in research that benefits the public, so that the findings can inform policy formulation and implementation plans aimed at improving the lives of Tanzanians.

This call was made today, June 18, 2025, by Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa while officiating the 13th Scientific Conference of the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS), held at the university’s Mloganzila campus in Dar es Salaam.

“We need to see the outcomes of these studies being put to use. These findings should not be left to gather dust in shelves. They must make a real contribution to the development of the health sector. I hope this conference will generate recommendations to strengthen systems, policies, and collaboration between the public and private sectors, for the benefit of all citizens,” said Majaliwa.

The Prime Minister also encouraged private sector stakeholders and development partners to increase investment in medical equipment and modern technologies to enhance the country’s ability to respond to diseases effectively and promptly.

He added that the government will continue to invest in the health sector by improving infrastructure, increasing the number of professionals, enhancing specialized medical services, and building robust systems to respond to disease outbreaks.

“We will continue to work closely with all stakeholders to ensure that every Tanzanian receives quality, safe, and friendly healthcare services, regardless of their location,” he emphasized.

Majaliwa further stated that the Sixth Phase Government, under the leadership of President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, is committed to creating a conducive environment for investment in the local production of medicines, vaccines, and medical equipment.

“We have already started witnessing positive progress in these areas, and we are proud of the contributions made by our local experts,” he noted.

He concluded by highlighting the government’s continued efforts to enhance the use of technology in the health sector, with many hospitals now utilizing digital systems for disease diagnosis, accurate treatment, and efficient patient monitoring.
