PM arrives in Tunis to represent Samia at TICAD

Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa arrives in Tunis, Tunisia to represent President Samia Suluhu Hassan at the 8th TICAD Conference

PRIME Minister Kassim Majaliwa has arrived in Tunis, Tunisia, ready to represent President Samia Suluhu Hassan at the 8th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD), slated for Saturday and Sunday.

Upon his arrival at Carthage Airport in Tunis, Premier was received by his Tunisian counterpart, Najla Bouden Romdhane.

A statement availed to the media on  Thursday said that the conference provides an opportunity for setting up cooperation strategies and development agenda that will be implemented between Japan and Africa.

Tanzania has been taking part in the conference since its inception in 1993.

The government of Japan has been leading the conference since 1993, co-hosted by United Nations, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), World Bank (WB) and African Union Commission (AUC).

Following good cooperation between Tanzania and Japan especially through Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the country has been benefiting from various projects in road infrastructure, energy, water, education, health and agriculture.

In July 2020, the government of Japan announced that TICAD8 to be held in 2022 would be hosted by the Republic of Tunisia.

TICAD will take place in Africa for the second time after Kenya hosted one in 2016. In light of the outcomes of TICAD7 held in Yokohama in August 2019, Japan will continue to strongly support African-led.

During the 7th TICAD which was held in Yokohama, Japan in 2019 the country set aside 20 billion US dollars for execution of various development agenda for a period of three years 2019-2022.
