People eyes efficiency in 5G technology

GOVERNMENT leaders and citizens have expressed their expectations of increased efficiency in service delivery following inauguration of the Five Generation (5G) and Submarine 2Africa Broadband Cable in the country.

They said diversified communication infrastructure will enable people to enjoy affordable, fastest and quality internet for digitalization of all aspects of life including economic production and provision of health services.

They said in Dar es Salaam on Thursday during the launch of Airtel 5G and the Submarine 2 Africa Broadband Cable and event which was graced by President Samia Suluhu Hassan.

Deputy Minister for Information, Communication and Information Technology, Mr Kundo Mathew said notable digital advancement will provide high speed internet to 180 Terabyte per second (tbs) compared to formerly speed which was 16 tbs.

He noted that the Submarine 2Africa Broadband Cable will accompany the National Information Communication Technology Broadband Backbone (NICTBB) for all Tanzanians to access high quality internet and communication services.

He said with 5G the entire communication ecosystem will boost timely interaction of citizens thus acting as the blueprint for them to explore socio-economic opportunities such as markets for agricultural products and health services within and outside the country.

Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Prof Adolph Mkenda said the inception of 5G will boost education development by easing learning  especially  distance e-learning at universities.

He said the government has integrated Information Communication Technology (ICT) into the new school curriculum to enable students from primary education to high learning education to acquire digital literacy including computer skills and its application in daily life.

For his part, University of Dar es Salaam’s (UDSM) Vice Chancellor, Prof William Anangisye commended President Samia Suluhu Hassan for assuring universities including UDSM across the country of free internet access in a need to enable them to obtain latest learning materials thus boosting academic performance.

“Stable internet availability will act as the catalyst for education development by reaching all students and putting visibility to all people across the country” he said.

Business Expert and Tech Analyst, Mr Merdad Wilfred based in Mwanza Region told the Daily News  that effective  digitalization will save time spent by citizens doing conventional transactions by replacing it with online payment, anywhere and anytime.

“With 5G local farmers across our country will explore new emerging markets and new production technologies to increase efficiency and profit, we will experience enduring rewarding fastest online access” Mr. Wilfred said.
