PCCB warns against corruption in upcoming local govt election
DAR ES SALAAM: The Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) in the Ilala Region has issued a stern warning against engaging in corruption during the local government elections scheduled for tomorrow.
Addressing journalists in Dar es Salaam, Ilala Regional PCCB Bureau Chief Sosthness Kibwengo vowed that strict action would be taken against anyone found accepting, offering, or involving themselves in corrupt practices during the elections.
He also underscored the importance of fair elections in driving national development.
“Elections are life; elections are development. As we approach the local government elections, let us understand that corruption is a major obstacle to development, fair elections, and electing the best leaders,” he stated.
To raise awareness, PCCB highlighted various initiatives undertaken to educate citizens on the dangers of corruption and the importance of ethical conduct during elections.

According to Kibwengo, the bureau has conducted 41 radio programs, held over 69 public meetings, and organized 33 seminars targeting different groups.

He also pointed out a special seminar held for religious leaders, where they were encouraged to advocate for ethical behavior during elections within their communities.
“We asked our religious leaders to emphasize the importance of ethical conduct during elections in their places of worship,” he said.
Mr Kibwengo further called on citizens to turn out in large numbers and cast their votes responsibly, emphasizing that the elections represent a critical opportunity to shape the nation’s future.
