PCCB redirects 60.2bn/- to essential public services

MOROGORO: THE Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) has recovered more than 60.2bn/-, which has now been redirected to essential public services including health, education, water, electricity, and infrastructure.
Prime Minister Mwigulu Nchemba made the statement today, January 26, in Morogoro, noting that the achievement is due to the government’s efforts in strengthening the bureau by increasing human resources, budget allocations, infrastructure, and making legal reforms to enhance the efficiency of anti-corruption efforts.
The minister stated that between July and December 2025, the country won 68.8 percent of the 489 cases brought to court, demonstrating the quality of investigations and cooperation between PCCB and the judiciary.
Representing President Samia Suluhu Hassan at the opening of the Annual General Meeting of PCCB leaders in Morogoro the Premier stated that corruption undermines human dignity and hinders the delivery of public services and stern preventive measures must be taken before it causes harm.
“Corruption is a national agenda that concerns all parts of Tanzania,” he said.
Additionally, he said that it is vital for government institutions to identify and close corruption loopholes, particularly in public procurement, project implementation, and contract management, as over 75 percent of the government budget flows through these areas.
Moreover, he urged Tanzanians to cooperate with PCCB by reporting acts of corruption, assuring the protection and confidentiality of whistleblowers.
The Prime Minister also raised the need for the private sector, international stakeholders, as well as youth and women to collaborate with the organ in anti-corruption efforts.
Furthermore, he said that the government is ready to make legal and administrative reforms wherever obstacles affecting PCCB mandate are identified, urging the institution’s leaders to submit their recommendations without hesitation.
