PCCB educates public on bribe effects in elections

THE Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) office in Coast Region has strengthened community engagement in fight against corruption in the forthcoming Local Government elections to be held in November this year.

COAST REGION: THE Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) office in Coast Region has strengthened community engagement in fight against corruption in the forthcoming Local Government elections to be held in November this year.

Deputy PCCB Commander for Coast Region Mr Ally Sadick told reporters in Kibaha Town recently that his office continues educating the public on effects of corruption in elections and steps to be taken in dealing with corruption acts.

The awareness education targets political parties, election supervisors, journalists and the public in general.
He said apart from providing awareness to the mentioned groups, PCCB will also be making close follow ups on candidates to see if they are engaging in any misconduct which might interfere with election processes.

Mr Sadick added that there is a PCCB office in every district as well as officers who are working in all 133 wards; 490 streets and 2,029 sub- streets in the region.

On the other hand, in the period from April to June this year, the office has managed to rescue 1.6bn/- in Kibaha Town Council which was about to get lost following some of the Council’s officials failing to follow rules, regulations and procedures in revenue collections.

In the same period, the office has received a total of 95 complaints whereby 55 of them were related to corruption and other 40 were solved through education and counselling while others were taken to other departments for solutions.

“During the mentioned period, we also succeeded to open 11 new cases in Court whereby suspects from seven cases were found guilty”, said Mr Sadick.
