PCCB apprehends Mpanda man for impersonation, soliciting 150,000/- bribe

PREVENTION and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) in Katavi Region have apprehended Michael Nkingwa for pretending to be a sitting CCM Mpanda District Secretary General.

He is allegedly to have used the trickery to soliciting and receiving a bribe of 150,000/- in cash to favour citizens living at unauthorised settlement at Mlimani City area.

Nkingwa was recently removed from a position of CCM Mpanda District Secretary General for reasons best known by his employer.

Narrating the incident, the Acting PCCB Katavi Regional Commander, Mr Faustine Mahijo confirmed that the suspect was caught receiving a bribe of 150,000/- in cash from wananchi living at Mlimani City area. He promised them that he has powers to ensure that the area is surveyed and subsequently recognised officially for residential settlements.

He further elaborated that on August 22nd, this year, the anti-corruption watchdog had received complaints from Mlimani City’s citizens that the suspect was soliciting bribe amounting to some 2m/-, so that he could help them to make the area surveyed and subsequently authorised as official settlement.

“We set a trap and the suspect was caught red handed receiving 150,000/- in cash. Initially he demanded to be given 2m/- but after discussion with wananchi at the area the amount was settled to 150,000/-,” added Mr Mahinjo.

Mr Mahinjo further elaborated that the suspect will be arraigned into the court after the preliminary investigations are completed.

On his the Katavi Regional CCM Chairman Mr Beda Katani admitted that the suspect is no longer the Mpanda District CCM Secretary General as he has been removed from the post early this year.
