PBZ, Asma Foundation support families in Pemba

People’s Bank of Zanzibar (PBZ) in collaboration with the Asma Mwinyi Foundation has supported the needy families in Pemba.

Asma Ali Mwinyi, the Director and Founder of the Asma Mwinyi Foundation said yesterday the donation was a gesture of goodwill during Ramadan to ensure that people got Iftar meals.

“Our target groups include the needy widows, orphans and women in hardships, giving them sustenance, comfort and letting them know that we care,” Ms Mwinyi said in Unguja, Zanzibar before shipping the donation consignment to Pemba.

The consignment included three hundred parcels, each containing cooking oil and five kilograms of rice, sugar and wheat flour. It donation will be distributed to the already identified three hundred families in the villages of Njau, Pujini, and Mchangamle.

PBZ Board Member Mr Hussein Migoda said the donation was part of the lender’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) to give back to the community.

“We have to share benefits with people, particularly the poor,” Mr Migoda said in Unguja.

PBZ was established in 1966 and is 100 per cent owned by the government of Zanzibar.

PBZ has a network of twenty-eight branches in Zanzibar and Tanzania Mainland as of last September. Eight out of those branches provide Islamic banking products. The bank provides services to both corporate and retail customers.is
