PAZI basketball star player Erick Lugola has set a new double record in the ongoing Basketball Dar es Salaam League (BDL) 2023.
The player has set the new scoring record and three-pointer record in the league played at the Don Bosco Oysterbay courts in Dar es Salaam, according to Dar es Salaam Basketball Association’s Technical and Competitions Director, Haleluya Kavalambi.
Kavalambi confirmed to the ‘Daily News’ in the city yesterday of the Lugola BDL’s remarkable feat.
“It is true, Lugola has set new league records, after scoring 65 points, which is the highest number ever stamped in one game, and scored three points more than anyone else. He scored 17 three points in one game,” Kavalambi said.
He said it’s amazing record and he complimented him for the hard work that paid off for him and his team.
In-form Lugola set the records during his team’s league match against Jogoo.
Another weekend battle saw Dar City beat Mgulani 78-41 to cement their lead in the league table.
Dar City have remained the only team yet to concede a match, with one walkover and 12 victories. They stay on the top of the table with 24 points after Sunday’s match win at Don Bosco Oysterbay courts.
The thrilling match saw Dar City take an impressive 16-9 lead in the first quarter before adding 29-18 at the breather.
In the second half, the winners were even more dangerous, hitting 30 for 13 in the third quarter, before finishing off their opponents with 19-10 in the final quarter to seal a comfortable 78-41 victory.
Defending champions, Pazi, who also played 13 matches are placed second with 23 points, they have conceded a match and have one walkover.
The defeat saw JKT who also played 13 matches with ten victories and conceded three, settle at the third place also with 23 points.
The two teams that were at the top are ABC who are now placed fourth with 22 points and the fifth-placed UDSM Outsiders who beat Police 99-34 to collect 21 points after their 13-match onslaught.
In the women’s category Vijana Queens continue to command the run as they are yet to concede a loss in the group. They lead the table after accumulating 20 points from 10 matches.
The second-placed JKT Stars have 19 points and have played ten matches, while Don Bosco Lioness, who have played ten games, are also third with 17 points.
