Over 600 youths to attend development forum

DODOMA: MORE than 600 young people from all regions of Tanzania are expected to gather in the capital today for the Tanzania Youth Development Forum, a national event focused on promoting economic empowerment and digital literacy among youth.
Speaking to reporters in Dodoma, the Chairperson of the Tanzania Youth Development Forum and Director of the Dodoma Youth Development Organisation (DOYODO), Mr Rajabu Juma, said the forum aims to equip young people with the knowledge and tools needed to navigate today’s economic and digital challenges.
Now in its fourth edition since its launch in 2022, the three-day forum will feature six key thematic sessions, led by experts from various sectors.
“These sessions will address crucial topics such as reproductive and mental health, strategies for economic empowerment, and combating gender-based violence, particularly online abuse, which is increasingly affecting youth on social media,” Mr Juma explained.
Other areas of focus include increasing youth participation in decision-making processes, with a call for more young people to run for leadership positions in the upcoming General Elections and local government polls.

Climate change will also be a central topic, with discussions on the environmental impact of industrial activities and the role youth can play in conservation efforts.
A major highlight of this year’s forum is the focus on digital innovation, particularly the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Mr Juma emphasised that AI presents vast opportunities for youth employment and entrepreneurship if leveraged effectively.
The forum will also include exhibitions showcasing youth-led innovations and technical skills from across the country, providing a platform for young entrepreneurs and creators to share their work.
Mr Juma noted that several government leaders and ministers are scheduled to attend the forum, offering mentorship and engaging in dialogue with participants.
Commenting on the broader impact of the initiative, Mr Dens Simon, a legal expert from Marie Stopes Tanzania, highlighted the organisation’s role in connecting youth across 23 African countries through similar platforms.
He added that the event will be officially graced by the Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (Labour, Youth, Employment and Persons with Disability), Mr Ridhiwani Kikwete, who is expected to engage directly with the youth on policy matters and development strategies.
