Over 60 companies to take part in pharmatech exhibition

MORE than 60 pharmaceutical companies from within and outside the country are expected to take part in the pharmatech East Africa exhibitions.

The event which runs from August 30 to September 1 this year, will host representatives from the East African region’s pharmacies, hospitals, health organizations, importers, exporters, decision-makers, and medical practitioners.

Fadhili  Hezekia, the President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Tanzania (PST), announced yesterday in Dar es Salaam that exhibitors from about eight countries will be attending the exhibitions in an effort to learn more about the untapped market in East Africa.

As this is the first time for the exhibitions to be held in Tanzania, particularly in the health sector, he said, “These exhibitions are specific and vital for our nation for everyone to be able to come, see, learn, experience, and network,”.

According to Mr Hezekiah, participants come from India, Kenya, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Rwanda, and Uganda, and 100 companies confirmed their attendance at the event, which Exhibitions and Trade Services India Private Limited (ETSIPL) and PST have organized. However, only 60 companies have so far been registered for the event.

Additionally, he has urged numerous stakeholders and individuals, including the nation’s colleges of pharmacy, to attend the expo in big numbers because it is a location where they may learn and form partnerships.

The exhibitions include a wide range of things. There will be more products from these large corporations around the world, including in Europe, Asia, and beyond, according to Mr Hezekiah. Companies will display their products, including pharmaceutical and medical equipment.

The Chief Executive Officer of ETSIPL, Mr Digvijay Singh, said that Tanzania has been fortunate since major corporations have come to display their goods, which would generate investment prospects.

“Pharmatech East Africa is the largest forthcoming pharmaceutical, medical, and healthcare expo in Tanzania. The exhibitions will serve as Tanzania’s entry point to the East African pharmaceutical, medical, and healthcare industries,” he noted

He further said more than 5000 visitors from Tanzania and the East African Region were expected to visit the exhibitions during the three days. Medical Conferences and Seminars will also be a part of the exhibition.

Mr Singh added that the expo was offering a good opportunity for Tanzania to seize the untapped East African market. It is one of the future events under the East African Belt’s general umbrella of events.

The manufacturing plants in Tanzania deal mostly with generic drugs and export some of the medicines to its East African neighbours. The few major pharmaceutical companies in Tanzania are Shelys Pharmaceuticals, Kairuki Pharmaceuticals Industry and Mansoor Daya Chemical.

Tanzania Medicines and Medical Devices Authority (TMDA) is an executive agency of the Ministry of Health that register, license and regulate the pharmaceutical sector and products to ensure that only genuine drugs are available to the public.
