Over 4.75bn/- collected to support Hanang disaster victims

DODOMA: Approximately 4.75 billion Tanzanian Shillings have been collected to aid the victims of the mudslide in Hanang District, Manyara Region.

The Chief Government’s Spokesperson, Mr Mobhare Matinyi, reported that the funds came from various sources, including development partners, public, and private organizations.

President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s visit to Dubai contributed 2.5 billion/-, while public institutions and organizations, along with the disaster fund under the Prime Minister’s Office, contributed 2.1 billion/-, totaling the collected amount.

Additionally, the government received 2.18 billion/- worth of food and essential items as aid from different places.

As of now, there have been no further reported deaths, with the current number standing at 89. Of these, 87 bodies have been identified and taken by their relatives for burial, while two remain unidentified, and the government plans to use DNA technology to address this issue.

Matinyi mentioned that health experts continue to provide services, with most patients having returned home, leaving only a few still receiving care.
