Over 130 golfers register for CDF Golf Trophy 2024

ALL is well as the national level NMB CDF Golf Trophy 2024 tournament is set to tee off from October 4-6 at the Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (TPDF) Lugalo Golf Club in Dar es Salaam.

As a week remains before the tee off, over 130 golfers so far have already registered.

Lugalo Chairman, Michael Luwongo confirmed the preparations are in full swing for the prestigious annual event which is part of the Tanzania Golf Union (TGU) calendar.

“This tournament honours the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), currently Jacob Mkunda, who will be the chief guest during the closing ceremony on Sunday,” he said.

Luwongo further highlighted CDF Mkunda, who is Lugalo club patron, aspires to make this tournament even bigger.

Significant enhancements have been made, particularly regarding prizes as this year overall winner will receive a cash prize of 4m/-, courtesy of main sponsor NMB.

Additionally, he said co-sponsor Toyota has pledged a brand-new car for any player who scores a hole-in one for the first time in this year’s tournament.

He said Serena Hotels will also provide accommodation for the winner, adding to the event’s allure.

Luwongo noted that competitors will include professionals, amateurs and juniors, all vying for top honours.

NMB Head of Private Banking, Getrude Mallya, presented a dummy cheque of 35m/- to Chairman Luwongo, commending Lugalo for its dedication to promoting golf.

She highlighted the collaboration with Lugalo to ensure the tournament is conducted with the highest professionalism and thanked Toyota for joining force.

Toyota General Manager Kadiva William expressed enthusiasm for the opportunity to be part of the event.

“Alongside the Toyota Harrier valued at 75m/- for the hole-in-one winner, we will also offer massage services for players post-tournament as an added incentive,” he said.

William pledged continued partnership with Lugalo and other stakeholders to further promote sports in the country.

Lugalo Captain, Japhet Masai noted that elite amateurs (main event) and professional’s categories will compete over three days on 54 holes, while others will participate for two days.

He assured that the courses are well prepared and in good condition and ready to host golfers.

Luwongo added that sponsorships like NMB’s have played a crucial role in the club’s success, fostering increased membership and promoting health and wellness among participants, as a round of golf involves walking approximately nine kilometres.
