Oryx Gas pushes for increased use of clean energy

THE Oryx Gas Tanzania Ltd (OGTL) has stressed on the use of clean cooking energy, in supporting government’s efforts to realize its 2032 clean energy target.

In November last year, President Samia Suluhu Hassan announced a fresh sweeping climate package aiming to widen access and use of clean energy by between 80 and 90 percent during the next 10 years.

OGTL’s Managing Director Benoit Araman made the company’s stance on Wednesday when speaking at the High-Level Regional Meeting on Financing for Gender Equality held in Dar es Salaam.

The meeting featured various discussions including on rights of African girl and women economic empowerment.
Mr Araman presented company’s view during the discussions, explaining various steps that the Oryx Gas company has taken to empower women economically by considering gender equality.

“Tanzanians are doing great in the issue of gender equality promotion as a result of government’s efforts,” he stated.
He elaborated that even their company has good representation of women.
“We aim to enable women use the clean energy,” he said.

On the part of environment, he said through their campaign to motivate the use of clean energy they believe it will also promote environment protection because people will stop using firewood and charcoal for cooking.
