Only two credit reference bureaux licensed in Tanzania

DODOMA: AS of yesterday, the Bank of Tanzania (BoT) had only provided Credit Reference Bureaux licences to two companies, Parliament was informed here yesterday.

The Deputy Minister of Finance, Hamad Hassan Chande named the companies as Creditinfo Tanzania Limited and Dun &amp and Bradstreet Credit Bureau Tanzania Limited.

He was responding to a question asked by Special Seats legislator, Martha Gwau who had inquired to know the number of companies that were providing credit reporting.

According to the deputy minister, the Bank of Tanzania Act, 2006 was giving statutory powers to the central bank to establish and offer supervision to the credit reference system.

Also, he noted, the law was giving the mandate to BoT to provide licences and supervise Credit Reference Bureaux.

“In this regard the central bank has now provided Credit Reference Bureaux to only two private companies,’’ he noted.
