Omani investors explore multi-million dollar deals in Tanzania

DAR ES SALAAM: A high-level delegation of 22 prominent Omani business leaders and investors is in Tanzania for a week-long mission to explore significant investment opportunities in key sectors, including energy, agriculture, fisheries and logistics.

The visit, organised by the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) – Al Wusta Branch, aims to deepen trade and investment ties between the two nations, leveraging Tanzania’s strategic position as a gateway to the African continent.

The delegation led by a Member of the State Council and Chairman of the OCCI’s Al Wusta Governorate, Dr. Salem Aljunaibi, is part of Oman’s national drive to expand its global economic footprint in line with the Oman Vision 2040, a strategic plan for diversification and international engagement.

During the visit, the Omani delegation engaged in high-level discussions with Tanzanian officials and held targeted businessto-business (B2B) sessions with local counterparts. Dr. Aljunaibi emphasised the strategic importance of the trip, calling it a crucial step in translating historical and cultural relations into tangible economic projects.

“Tanzania is one of the region’s rising markets. Through this mission, we aim to forge strategic partnerships that will unlock fresh opportunities for Omani investors and deliver tangible benefits to both economies,” he said.

Dr Hashil Twibo, Undersecretary of the Tanzanian Ministry of Trade and Industry, welcomed the delegation, highlighting the deep historical ties and the government’s commitment to supporting Omani investors.

He affirmed that Tanzania’s government is actively creating a conducive environment for foreign direct investment. The delegation’s itinerary included site visits to crucial industrial and logistic zones to gain firsthand insights into investment prospects.

A key stop was the Union Meat Group, a major meat-producing company that has rapidly become a significant exporter to the Omani market. The CEO of Union Meat Group, Mariam Ng’hwani, told the delegation that the company, operational for only one year, has already begun exporting to Oman.

She revealed that the firm relies on a network of local farmers to meet high demand, thereby encouraging a shift from subsistence to commercial farming.

“Our aim is to encourage them to shift from subsistence to commercial farming, so that Tanzania’s vast livestock resources can benefit more from international markets,” Ms. Ng’hwani stated, assuring the delegates of the company’s strict adherence to international health and halal standards.

Dr Al-Junaibi expressed his delegation’s admiration for the company’s achievements, praising its ability to meet global standards and secure an international market in such a short period.

“We are impressed by the high standards maintained at the factory… Achieving this milestone is remarkable, and we congratulate you,” he said.

The delegation also toured the Kamika Free Industrial City, which serves as a model for attracting investments in agriculture, food industries and logistics, showcasing Tanzania’s readiness to facilitate major foreign projects.
