Olomi makes history at 2026 TPC Open Golf Tournament

KILIMANJARO: NEEMA Olomi has etched her name into Tanzanian golf history after becoming the first female golfer to win the National Open Main Event.

Olomi clinched the overall title at the 2026 TPC Open Golf Tournament, which ended at TPC Moshi Club in the Kilimanjaro Region over the weekend.

The prestigious event, organised by TPC Club in collaboration with the Tanzania Golf Union (TGU), marked the opening tournament of the 2026 TGU national calendar.

The three-day, 54-hole championship attracted the country’s top male and female golfers, delivering intense competition across all divisions.

Olomi, the national ladies’ team captain from Arusha Gymkhana Club (AGC), produced a composed and commanding performance throughout the tournament.

She opened with a level-par 72 in round one, followed by a three-over 75 in the second round, before closing with a brilliant one-under-par 71.

Her total score of +2 (218) was enough to outclass the field, defeat leading male golfers, and secure her maiden National Open victory, a landmark achievement for both her career and Tanzanian golf.

Host golfer George Sembi finished second on +7 (76, 72, 75), five shots behind Olomi. Julius Mwinzani of Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club (DGC) tied for third on +9 (74, 72, 79) alongside Emmanuel Lucas (+9; 73, 78, 74). Prosper Emmanuel (+11; 77, 79, 71) and Ramadhani Yassin (+11; 77, 77, 73) all of TPDF Lugalo Golf Club of Dar es Salaam, shared sixth place, while host Elisha Mbwambo rounded out the top seven on +13 (79, 70, 80).

In Division A, Ally Mwinyi of TPC claimed top honours with 72 points, ahead of Shukuru Omari of TPDF Lugalo, who finished runner-up with 66 points. Division B was won by John Kisanga of TPC with 71 points, followed by Godluck Makupa on 69 points.

Gabriel Andrea of TPC secured victory in Division C with 68 points, while Michael Misabo of DGC finished second with 64 points. In the Ladies category, Joyce Warega of Lugalo emerged winner with 65 points, with Gladys Muhesa of TPC taking second place on 60 points.

David Calwell of TPC won the Senior Men category with 70 points, edging out TGU vice-chairman Prudence Kajage of AGC, who finished runner-up after a countback, Theresia Ndivo of AGC claimed the Senior Women title, while Asha Mashaka of TPC finished second.

In the Juniors category, K. Angelo of TPDF Lugalo won the Gross title, Abraham Jaffari of TPC captured the Net title, and Filbert Richard of TPC finished Net runner-up.

Special prizes saw Godfrey Gwacha of TPC win the Men’s Longest Drive award, Joyce Warega of Lugalo claim the Ladies’ Longest Drive prize, and Theresia Ndivo add to her success by winning the Nearest to the Pin award.
