NVeP, Barrick Gold Mine support students from vulnerable families
NOS Vies en Partage Foundation (NVeP) in collaboration with Barrick Gold Mine has donated 20,000 US dollars to Tanzania Student Achievement Foundation (TanSAF) and Parakuyo Secondary School in Kilosa District, Morogoro Region to improve the learning environment for students from poor backgrounds.
This donation is part of the funds disbursed by NVeP established by Barrick Gold Corporation President and Chief Executive Officer, Mr Mark Bristow to help special groups including women, children and other groups that are not benefitting from the growth of the economy in Africa.
Barrick Gold Country Manager, Mr Melkiory Ngido said in every quarter of the year, the gold company has been providing productive aid to the needy communities in the country.
“To date, we have been able to assist 10 organisations through NVeP and today we are here to donate 10,000 US dollars for the two organisations to improve education for our children,” he said.
Speaking after receiving the donation, TanSAF Director of Planning, Mr Alex Elifas thanked NVeP and Barrick for the assistance saying it will help identify talents from less fortunate families to pursue studies in some top global universities.
The Acting Kilosa District Executive Director, Wapa Mpwewe thanked for the donation directed to Parakuyo secondary school that will help in the construction of dormitories as well as general rehabilitation of the school after being destroyed by floods last year.
Through the funds donated by NVeP and Barrick a Form Six student from Kisimiri Secondary School in Arusha Region, Mr Bruno Bruno has secured a scholarship at a US university.
