THE National Sports Council (NSC) has directed Tanzania Darts Association (TADA) to submit a calendar of their annual activities so that they can get timely backing from the government.
NSC Secretary General Neema Msitha gave the directives when the association officials visited the council to hand over trophies the darts team won in the recently climaxed PDC Africa tournament in Uganda.
Msitha said: “We have heard your challenges, but we will work more on the equipment challenge that you have raised here. We know that darts needs to increase a number of stakeholders like other sports which now draw a big number of sponsors.
“Make sure you identify darts’ stakeholders who can help the sport to advance. You can write a letter to them or hold a joint meeting with them.
“We promise, as the government, to cooperate with you in developing this game. And I also congratulate the winners who have won trophies because they have been able to represent well our nation. Especially women who have been able to win many trophies during the competition,” she said.
On his side, the association’s Secretary General, Victor Kimambo said their main request to the government is to help them find sponsors who can make them participate fully in events in and outside the country.
Adding, he also called sponsors to help them acquire darts equipment at an affordable price.
“We are asking the government to help us by reducing the tax on equipment and making it easier for us to get them here because we are currently getting the equipment in Kenya,” he added.
Another request is to include the game in the school curriculum as a subject so that it can help children to learn it effectively and make this game spread quickly,” he said.
