NMB unveils new digital payment option for businesses

This new payment solution, introduced for the first time in the market, aligns with the bank’s financial inclusion strategy, enabling businesses to easily and costeffectively accept card payments

ARUSHA: NMB Bank has launched a contactless payment option for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) as part of its long-term strategy to drive digital payment transformation.

This new payment solution, introduced for the first time in the market, aligns with the bank’s financial inclusion strategy, enabling businesses to easily and costeffectively accept card payments through the ‘QR Pay by Link’ system.

NMB’s Mastercard Manager, Mr Mosses Alfonce, highlighted here at the weekend that the new option is set to revolutionise the domestic payment ecosystem by offering consumers a safe and secure contactless payment method.

He emphasised that it supports the financial inclusion agenda and expands access to financial services.

“NMB and Mastercard have partnered to provide simple, secure and cost-effective digital payment solutions for both merchants and consumers,” he said.

During the event, Tanzania Association of Tour Operators (TATO) Executive Director, Mr Elirehema Maturo, expressed optimism that the new payment option would greatly benefit entrepreneurs in the tourism sector.

“The tourism industry has faced challenges, including a lack of flexible payment options, which has occasionally frustrated tourists. I believe this new option from NMB Bank will help resolve these issues,” he said.

Mr Maturo also stressed the importance of investing in research and innovation across sectors such as transport, accommodation, telecommunications and digital payments to boost the tourism sector’s contribution to the national economy.

NMB’s Head of Card Business, Mr Filbert Casmir, emphasised that the QR Pay by Link option marks a significant milestone in the future of payments in the country, offering faster transactions, greater convenience and reducing the reliance on cash payments.

“Consumers can now make cashless payments by simply scanning a QR code at any location accepting the Merchant Presented QR Code,” he explained.

Mr Casmir urged SMEs in Arusha to adopt the new payment system, highlighting its advantages, including zero additional costs. With a simple link, businesses can now accept payments anywhere, making it easier for consumers to settle bills without needing to enter or remember payment details.
