NMB Bank management trainee programme has to date produced over 60 financial management experts who have helped to boost its human capital base and make the lender a top employer.
The latest batch of bankers produced by the apprenticeship scheme graduated last week in Dar es Salaam.
The eight graduates pledged to repay the trust the bank has had in them and the investment it has made in their career development by working hard and diligently.
“Our dreams to become bankers have now become true. We promise to work very hard as employees of this successful banking institution in Tanzania,” graduate Amanda Esako said on behalf of her colleagues.
She said the two-year grooming was no easy task but a worthy venture they are grateful to have been part of, which accords them the opportunity to serve not only the bank but the whole of Tanzania at large.
Ms Amanda made the remarks after senior NMB leaders had called on the group to also use the privilege to develop themselves and contribute to nation building efforts.
Chief Human Resources Officer Emmanuel Akonaay said he was optimistic the group will deliver and help NMB to consolidate its market leadership position.
“During the two years that they have been around, these young people have managed to mobilise deposits worth 7bn/- and helped to open 5,000 new accounts,” Mr Akonaay noted.
“Their commitment shows that they are the future leaders of this bank. I, therefore, urge them to work hard, professionally and prioritise the interests of the bank and Tanzania,” he added.
According to the Head of Human Resource, Shared Services, Mr Joseph Ngalawa, the graduation held recently marked the end of the fourth phase of the programme.
Mr Ngalawa told this paper that the human capital development initiative started in 2009 and most of its graduates are currently senior managers of NMB.
The graduation ceremony was graced by the NMB board member Mr Ramadhan Mwikalo who said it was such investments in grooming new and young talents that make NMB a top employer and leader of financial services.
Mr Mwikalo said the skilled and competent staff was the number one asset of the bank, which makes it excel in its operations. Currently, NMB has more than 4 4 million workers who manage its 277 branches across the country.
“Firstly, this talent nurturing and skills development programme is a worthy investment, which is supported by the board of directors. NMB being voted the best employer in 2022 means and tells a lot as a leading employer. I commend you for the achievement,” Mr Mwikalo pointed out.
“You are the future leaders of this bank,” he told the graduates.
Speaking earlier, Acting Chief Executive Officer, Mr Filbert Mponzi said as new employees of the best employer in Tanzania, the group was in the right place and very safe hands.
For them to excel, he noted, they should be result oriented which he said was the secret behind the success of people like him who joined the bank as junior officers.
