Njombe gears up for 30,000 workers on May Day
ARUSHA: ABOUT 30,000 workers from various trade unions under the Trade Union Congress of Tanzania (TUCTA) are expected to participate in this year’s national International Workers’ Day (Mei Mosi) celebrations at the national level in Njombe Region.
This was revealed by TUCTA President Tumaini Nyamhokya in an interview yesterday. Mr Nyamhokya said this year’s national celebrations will be held this Friday at the Njombe Town Council grounds.
He noted that preparations are progressing well, with all arrangements in place to ensure workers and members of the public fully participate in the event.
“We expect no fewer than 30,000 people to attend this year’s national International Workers’ Day celebrations in Njombe,” he said.

Mr Nyamhokya added that, due to the significance of the occasion, the guest of honour is expected to be President Samia Suluhu Hassan.
“The theme for this year’s national celebrations is: ‘Decent work is a strong pillar for sustainable development in the implementation of the National Vision 2050,’” he said.
He also expressed optimism that the concerns already submitted to the president will receive positive responses. Last year’s national May Day celebrations were held in Singida Region and were also officiated by President Samia.
