NileAGI sees prosperity in ICT solutions after visiting Zanzibar

DAR ES SALAAM: KEY players in the Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems have been encouraged to embrace local AI infrastructure with focus on building solutions that are developed, hosted and maintained within the country.
The urge has been made by NileAGI Company Leader, Mr Zephania Reuben after conducting a successful meeting with Zanzibar’s Ministry of ICT and Innovation on Tuesday in Zanzibar.
Speaking to reporters in Dar es Salaam today, April 1st, 2026, Mr Reuben labelled the meeting as a turning point towards the growth of AI in the country.
“We engaged in insightful discussions focused on advancing the local AI ecosystem… central to the conversation was the concept of Local AI Infrastructure, emphasizing the importance of building AI solutions that are developed, hosted, and maintained within the country.
“This approach not only ensures greater data sovereignty but also strengthens the security, reliability, and ethical governance of AI systems locally,” he said.
Another critical area they discussed was based on the importance of developing AI systems that are transparent, fair, secure, and aligned with national values and governance frameworks.

“Emphasis was placed on ensuring that as AI adoption grows, appropriate governance structures, policies, and risk management frameworks are established to guide ethical and accountable AI deployment across both public and private sectors.
“The conversation also highlighted the cultivation of AI talent, emphasizing the urgent need to invest in training and creating opportunities for local AI professionals, ensuring that the next generation is equipped to drive innovation and solve context-specific challenges in Zanzibar and the wider region.
“We further explored collaborative pathways between NileAGI and the Ministry to support local AI research, pilot deployments, responsible AI governance frameworks, and talent development programs, aiming to position Zanzibar as a hub for responsible and impactful AI innovation.
