Nigeria, Cameroon teams in talks to join 2025 Chipkizi Cup in Arusha

ARUSHA: YOUTH soccer teams from Nigeria and Cameroon are in advanced discussions with Future Stars Academy (FSA) in Arusha to participate in the highly anticipated 16th Edition of the Chipkizi Cup, scheduled for December 15– 21, 2025.
According to Chipkizi Cup Manager, Abel Mtweve, available slots are filling up fast especially in the highly competitive Under-17 boys’ category, which now has only three remaining spots.
If confirmed, Nigeria and Cameroon will be the only nations outside East Africa to take part in this year’s tournament, adding a fresh layer of international flair to the event.
The Chipkizi Cup, now widely regarded as the No. 1 grassroots and youth sports tournament on the African continent, has grown into a vibrant international sporting festival.
Organised by FSA of Arusha, the tournament brings together over 330 youth teams from across Africa and increasingly, beyond. Originally a regional football event, the Chipkizi Cup has expanded to include other sports such as basketball and swimming, promoting a wellrounded sporting experience for boys and girls alike.
“This year, we are capping participation at 330 teams to ensure high-quality organisation and deliver a truly memorable experience for all participants and supporters,” said Mtweve.

Beyond fierce competition, the Chipkizi Cup emphasises fun, entertainment, cultural exchange, and friendship. The week-long event is packed with activities designed to create unforgettable memories, both on and off the pitch.
“This is about more than just the game—it’s about building lifelong connections, celebrating diversity, and inspiring the next generation of athletes,” Mtweve added.
The tournament has become a launchpad for young talent, with many players progressing to national and international levels. In July 2025, FSA’s Under-16 team represented Tanzania at the prestigious Donosti Cup in Spain, showcasing their talent on a global stage.
That same month, ten standout players traveled to Valencia, Spain, for elite training and trials with SPF (Soccer Performance Institute).
Following their success, eleven U-17 players were selected to attend an elite football camp in Salou, Spain, in December 2025, right after the Chipkizi Cup. They will also participate in the renowned Cruyff Tournament, where international scouts and agents will be on the lookout for rising stars.
Back home, several FSA players have been promoted to U-20 and First Teams, further emphasising the Academy’s dedication to developing homegrown talent.
The Chairman of the Arusha Regional Football Association (ARFA), Zakayo Mjema, praised the Chipkizi Cup for its role in youth development saying: “This prestigious tournament has produced players who now feature in both national and international teams. Even the Tanzania Football Federation recognises the Chipkizi Cup, which is now a key event on the country’s official sports calendar.” As the countdown begins for Chipkizi Cup 2025, anticipation is building for what promises to be the tournament’s most exciting edition yet—uniting the continent through the power of sport.
