NICTBB project headlines Communication Ministry’s 2025/26 budget

DODOMA: THE expansion of the National ICT Broadband Backbone (NICTBB) is among the seven strategic projects the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology will implement in the 2025/2026 financial year.
The seven strategic projects are aimed at enhancing access to reliable and affordable communication services.
Tabling his ministry’s budget estimates for 2025/26 before the National Assembly on Friday, Minister Jerry Silaa said the projects will be implemented in collaboration with development partners and the private sector.
The ministry is seeking approval of 291.53 billion/-, which marks an increase of over 110bn/- from the 180.92bn/- allocated in the 2024/25 financial year.
“The government is committed to transforming the country through technology. These projects aim to improve digital connectivity and accelerate innovation,” he said.
Other key projects include the implementation of the National Physical Addressing System and the construction of the National ICT Innovation Hub and regional mini ICT parks to support digital innovation across the country.

Additionally, the government will continue rolling out the Digital Tanzania Project, which focuses on expanding digital infrastructure, improving government digital services, and increasing digital literacy.
The Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) will also play a critical role in strengthening regulatory frameworks to match technological advancements and growing demand for digital services.
Mr Silaa further noted that the ministry will support local innovation and manufacturing of ICT devices to reduce dependency on imports and boost job creation in the sector.
“These initiatives are aligned with the government’s vision of building a digital economy that benefits all Tanzanians, especially the youth,” he added.
