NIC, TCAA to enforce mandatory inbound travel insurance

DAR ES SALAAM: Tanzania National Insurance Corporation (NIC) and the Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority (TCAA) have jointly agreed to enforce a mandatory inbound travel insurance targeting to ensure efficiency, transparency, and convenience for travellers entering the East African country.

The decision was made during a working visit by the Corporation Managing Director Kaimu Abdi Mkeyenge to TCAA, where he met with the Authority’s chief, Daniel Malanga.

The mandatory inbound travel insurance was recently introduced in Tanzania under Section 134A of the Insurance Act, Chapter 394. Under the new provision, every foreign visitor entering Mainland Tanzania through airports, seaports, or land border points is required to have a valid travel insurance policy that provides coverage for a period of up to 92 days from the date of entry.

During the meeting, the two institutions discussed the best ways to jointly coordinate the implementation of the law, particularly within aviation systems and immigration procedures, to ensure efficiency, transparency, and convenience for travelers entering the country.

The leaders emphasized the importance of cooperation between the insurance sector and the aviation sector in strengthening traveler protection and safety, while also contributing to the sustainable growth of the tourism and transport sectors as a whole.
