New ‘Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan Stadium’ in Offing

TANZANIA: The much-awaited stadium to be constructed in Arusha will be named after the sitting President Samia Suluhu Hassan only if she accepts the proposal.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry for Culture, Arts, and Sports, Mr. Gerson Msigwa, revealed in Dar es Salaam on Tuesday.
“As the Ministry, we are planning to name it Samia Suluhu Hassan Stadium upon its completion if she accepts the proposal.
“It will be a state-of-the-art stadium capable of accommodating 30,000 people and will be among the venues to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals,” he says.
Moreover, Msigwa reveals that renovation works at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam are scheduled to be completed on August 24th this year.
“All the 60,000 seats inside the stadium will be replaced by new ones and trust me, when the uplift works are complete, the venue will look totally different,” he says.
He adds that more than 31bn/- have been allocated for the refurbishment of Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.
