Nchimbi: Samia committed to good governance

DAR ES SALAAM: RULING party CCM’s Secretary General, Ambassador Dr Emmanuel Nchimbi has underlined President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s commitment to strengthen good governance that follows principles of democracy in the country.

Dr Nchimbi said that, under the leadership of President Samia, who also serves as CCM Chairperson, Tanzania has given governance issues the highest priority in recent years.

He said all the three arms of government, namely the Executive, Parliament and Judiciary are working closely in the implementation of the concept of good governance.

Dr Nchimbi said this on Tuesday, during his meeting with the United States Ambassador to Tanzania, Michael Battle, at the CCM sub-Headquarters, Lumumba Street in Dar es Salaam.

He said the government institutions have continued to fulfill their responsibilities by functioning effectively and thus gaining the trust of the citizens.

Ambassador Nchimbi stressed that under President Samia, CCM will ensure all development challenges in the country especially those that are associated with poor management in the public sector are swiftly addressed.

He said such challenges are reflected in financial mismanagement, corruption, low level service provision, tax evasion and unnecessary bureaucratic procedures.

In line with that, Dr Nchimbi and Ambassador Battle also discussed various issues related to the longstanding cooperation and relationship between the two countries.

The two agreed that both countries need to explore areas that can be improved for the benefit of both sides, especially in the fields of trade, economy, and investment.

“It is our duty to strengthen and improve this good relationship, lets maintain and improve this relationship for the benefit of our citizens,” said Ambassador Nchimbi.

On his part, Ambassador Battle commended the leadership of President Samia describing her as transparent, strong, and courageous, especially in upholding the principles of democracy and good governance.

He noted that, “As you know, our relationship is longstanding, further enhanced by the friendship between (Mwalimu) Julius Nyerere and (John) Kennedy. But there was also closeness between (Jakaya) Kikwete and (George) Bush.

“And now we see the close relation between President Samia and Vice-President (of the United States) Kamala Harris.

I want to assure you and let you know that the relationship between Tanzania and the United States is significant and real,” said Ambassador Battle.
