Nchemba: Keenly supervise Force Account projects

DODOMA: FINANCE Minister Dr Mwigulu Nchemba has emphasised the importance of proper management and supervision of project implementation under the Force Account.

He stated that the Force Account has been a good example of appropriate use of public funding but requires strict supervision.

Dr Nchemba made these remarks while laying the foundation stone for the construction of the Institute of Accountancy Arusha (IAA), Dodoma Branch, which is being constructed through the Force Account.

He stressed the need for close monitoring and supervision of the construction of the six-storey academic block, emphasising the importance of maintaining standards and ensuring value for money.

“You must strive for standards and value for money not only in the construction of this block but also in other blocks built in Manyara and Babati. Supervise the implementation closely, as they are funded by the public,” he said.

He added that the sixth phase government under President Samia Suluhu Hassan is dedicated to improving education standards and infrastructure, hence the heavy investment in the sector.

Dr Nchemba urged for the timely completion of ongoing projects and encouraged innovation by introducing courses that will contribute to economic development.

Earlier, IAA Rector, Professor Eliamani Sedoyeka, mentioned that the construction of the academic building will increase the enrollment at the Dodoma Branch to 7,806 students annually.

He also announced plans to start offering degree courses at the Dodoma campus in 2024, in addition to the current certificate, diploma, postgraduate, and masters programs.

The Campus Manager, Dr stated that courses were initiated in the 2021/22 academic year in rented offices, strategically targeting public servants and self-employed individuals in the capital city.

During the first year, 1176 students enrolled in the master’s program, with a majority participating in a blended program that allowed for evening classes without physical attendance, except during exams and proposal submissions. By the 2023/24 academic year, the campus had registered 521 students.
