NBC Bank has pledged to continue supporting farmers so as to improve agriculture productivity which will enhance the sector’s contribution to economic growth.
The NBC Director of Finance, Mr Waziri Barnabas made the remarks in Mtwara Region recently in an event to wind up the second edition of the bank’s campaign on ‘Vuna Zaidi na NBC Shambani’ where various prizes were granted to winners.
“NBC is determined to cooperate with farmers to ensure that they improve and boost the agricultural productivity, supporting government ambition of attaining 10 per cent growth of the sector by 2030,” he said.
He said the bank apart from the ‘Vuna Zaidi na NBC Shambani’ campaign the bank has been providing various loans to a number of AMCOS in the region as a way of supporting their operational activities related to cashew production.
During the event, the bank presented various prizes including bicycles, motorcycles and a tractor to winners of the campaign who hail from the Mtwara Region.
Gracing the event, Mtwara Regional Commissioner, Colonel Ahmed Abbas said the awarding of the campaign winners has come at the right time when the region was implementing its ambitious plan of increasing cashewnuts production from the current 400,000 tonnes to 700,000 tonnes by 2025.
“The prizes will spur the production rate of cashewnuts and other crops in the region,” he said.
He added, “We are grateful to see that NBC bank is fully participating in achieving the ambition through the campaign.
The RC asked agricultural experts in the region to visit farmers regularly to provide them with an education that will enable them to produce quality cashews.
