TANZANIA: NATIONAL Teams Fundraising Committee has unveiled a collection of 800m/- in cash.
The funds have been collected out of 4.27bn/- pledges from sports stakeholders, business individuals and public and private sectors to support national teams for global sporting events.
The goal is to comply with President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s appeal to stakeholders to raise funds to help the national teams prepare for global competitions and prosper rather than just competing.
The initiative to support the national team began earlier this month, when Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa identified the goal as collecting 20 bn/-.
A report on collection was presented to the press on Thursday in Dar es Salaam by the Vice-Chairman of the Committee, Patrick Kahemele.
“Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa has directed the committee to work on the report on the fundraising activity that include issuing a report on the list of individuals who issued the pledges and the amount collected so far.
“The report is to be submitted to him every after two weeks. We have also been directed to organise another fundraising gala in Dodoma to receive more pledge for the national teams,” he said.
