National Pool Championship reaches thrilling finale in Iringa

IRINGA: THE atmosphere in Iringa is electric as the National Pool Championship reaches its dramatic conclusion today.
Over the past three days, 176 skilled players representing 24 clubs from across the country have battled it out in a display of exceptional precision, focus and sportsmanship all vying for the coveted national title and a place on the Tanzania national pool team.
The championship, hosted by the Tanzania Pool Association (TAPA), has drawn widespread attention for its high-level competition and smooth organisation.
From the very first break, players demonstrated not only individual brilliance but also the rising standard of pool in Tanzania.
TAPA Secretary General, Abdallah Omar expressed deep satisfaction with how the event unfolded, praising both the organisation and the players’ commitment.
“ E v e r y t h i n g was ready and the players were in high spirits throughout the competition. Each participant came prepared with clear goals and the level of competition was truly impressive,” Omar disclosed.
He emphasised that the championship served more than just the purpose of crowning a national champion as it was a crucial scouting ground for assembling a formidable squad to represent Tanzania in upcoming international tournaments.

“The championship not only served as a platform to determine the national champion but also played a critical role in identifying talent for the national pool team. We are confident the selection process was fair and the champion earned their title through skill and merit,” he said.
Omar also took the opportunity to call upon sports stakeholders, corporate sponsors and fans to strengthen their support for the game.
He emphasised that sustainable growth of the sport from grassroots to elite levels and hinges on collaborative partnerships.
“We urge sponsors, supporters and anyone passionate about sports development to join us. Pool in Tanzania has a bright future and now is the time to invest in its growth. Our door is always open to partnerships and sponsorships,” he appealed.
The tournament also proved to be a crowd-puller, drawing large, enthusiastic audiences who packed the venue to watch nailbiting matchups and cheer on their favorite players.
“The tournament attracted wide interest from the public, with many matches drawing impressive crowds. The energy was fantastic and the spirit of fair play and sportsmanship was evident throughout,” Omar remarked.
“This reflects not only the maturity of the players but also the increasing popularity of pool as a respected sport in Tanzania.”
As the curtains fall on this exciting chapter, Tanzania’s pool community looks ahead with optimism.
With fresh talent identified, stronger networks forming and a renewed call for collaboration, the future of Tanzanian pool is indeed on a winning streak.
