MOROGORO: THE Morogoro Gymkhana Club is poised to be the focal point today as the Nanenane Golf Tournament kicks off.
This event is made particularly exciting by the introduction of the SGR electric train, which significantly reduces travel time for golfers commuting from Dar es Salaam to Morogoro and allowing them to play and return on the same day.
Organised by the Breakfast Golfing Community Group of Dar es Salaam, the day-long tournament will feature a challenging 18-hole battle.
George Kivaria, one of the tournament coordinators, confirmed to the ‘Daily News’ in Dar es Salaam that preparations for today’s tee-off have been finalised, with over 22 golfers already registered for the event.
Kivaria emphasised that the tournament helps support the government’s initiative to promote electric train transport between the two cities as well enhancing the bonds among golfers.

“It’s going to be an exciting journey for those traveling. The tournament itself is unique and everything is in place for golfers who are ready to compete on the beautiful brown course,” he stated.
Additionally, Kivaria mentioned that the tournament is part of the Nanenane celebrations, fostering friendships among golfers from various regions.
“Transport infrastructure is crucial for sports development, as it streamlines travel and minimises time lost on the roads,” he explained.
“This is just the beginning. We aim to leverage the SGR electric train for future events,” Kivaria added.
He also shared that the Breakfast Golfing Group plans to organise similar trips and tournaments every four months.
Kivaria expressed gratitude towards those who have joined the Morogoro trip and expressed hopes that more golfers will participate in future editions.
Participants are set to depart Dar es Salaam at 6:00 AM today, with plans to return in the evening after the prize-giving ceremony.
