Namungo surprise package as race takes shape

AS the race for NBC Premier League title continues to rage on, a glimpse of separation in terms of points, marksmanship and good defending herald the end of the fifth round.

Leaders Simba are at the summit of the table with 13 points similarly to the second-placed Young Africans, only to be separated by goal deference.

Both have scored 11 goals from five fixtures, producing four wins and each has recorded one draw in the process.

In terms of conceded goals, Simba have allowed two goals in against four conceded by their traditional rivals Yanga  and that is a clear indication that the title race  is very tough.

Similarly, both sides came from behind to force draws at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium with Yanga being held by Azam (2-2) whereas Simba also roared from behind to grab a 2-2 draw with KMC.

So far, only three teams are yet to lose a game at the end of 450 minutes. They are Simba, Yanga and Namungo while the rest have already tasted the bitter pill.

Namungo have had a good ride as they have won three games out of five fixtures to gather 11 points and have just conceded two goals like Simba.

Azam who accommodate the fourth slot, have also generated 11 points from six outings after winning three games, stamping two draws and losing one match.

Ruvu Shooting are fifth with 9 points just one point above Singida Big Stars who have garnered 8 points to claim sixth place from five encounters of which they have just managed two wins, two draws and one loss.

The Singida based giants have failed to shine in their consecutive three matches, but they still remain optimistic of regaining the touch before it is too late.

There are three teams placed at the bottom of the table and they are yet to win a match. The teams include Polisi Tanzania  who are placed 14th, Kagera Sugar at the 15th position and  Ihefu  at the 16th place.

The newly promoted Ihefu  slightly regained a composure after grabbing a 1-1 draw in their previous encounter against Tanzania Prisons.

In terms of clean-sheets, Simba and Namungo shot-stoppers Aishi Manula and Jonathan Nahimana lead the package with four clean-sheets apiece.
