Mwinyi, wife donate food items to the needy

ZANZIBAR President Hussein Mwinyi and his wife Maryam Mwinyi have donated food items to the needy in Micheweni, Wete, and Kojani areas in North Pemba.

The beneficiaries of the donations included the divorced women, elders, people with disabilities and the poor.

President Mwinyi said the gesture was in the spirit of supporting the unprivileged during Ramadan fasting while Mama Maryam said that the idea behind the donations was to show love to the needy.

The Zanzibar First Lady called on the public to pursue peace, security and pray for the country during this period.

In addition, President Mwinyi encouraged economically well-off people to continue helping people with special needs in this Holy Month of Ramadan. Both Mwinyi and Maryam thanked the people for responding well to receive the donation.

During the month of Ramadan, many Muslims donate food items and money to the needy as one of the good deeds that are encouraged during the month.
