Mwinyi vows stronger ties with contractors’ body

ZANZIBAR: ZANZIBAR President Dr Hussein Mwinyi has officially launched the Zanzibar Construction Sector Contractors’ Association (ZCSA), pledging his government’s continued collaboration with all stakeholders in the construction industry, a critical pillar in the country’s development agenda.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony held over the weekend, President Mwinyi said the formation of the association marks a significant step in strengthening partnerships between the government and private sector to accelerate infrastructure development across Zanzibar.

“In recent years, the government has made major strides in the construction sector by building new roads, schools and hospitals,” Dr Mwinyi said, adding: “This new association will serve as an important platform for dialogue, technical exchange and joint planning between the government and contractors.”
He commended the establishment of ZCSA as a key institution that will help contractors raise concerns, offer expert advice and contribute recommendations to enhance the sector and ensure timely, efficient project execution.
President Mwinyi reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to resolving major challenges facing the industry, including limited access to capital, which continues to hinder the capacity of many local contractors.
He directed the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communication and Transport, along with the Contractors’ Registration Board, to link contractors with financial institutions and consider setting up a dedicated financing scheme to support local construction firms.
Dr Mwinyi also urged all stakeholders in the sector to uphold professionalism, unity and collaboration and to avoid unnecessary disputes that could obstruct progress.
“The construction sector is central to our economic transformation,” he stressed, insisting; “Working together with unity and purpose will help us build a stronger and more self-reliant Zanzibar.”
Minister for Infrastructure, Communication and Transport, Dr Khalid Salum Mohammed, noted that the launch of the ZCSA aligns with President Mwinyi’s broader vision to drive strategic development projects across all sectors of the economy.
In his remarks, ZCSA Chairperson Said Omar Fakih said the association aims to unite all construction stakeholders, create employment opportunities and facilitate access to training and financial services for its members.
