Mwinyi offers Karume Boys 1m/- per goal

ZANZIBAR: THE President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council Hussein Ali Mwinyi has put a 1m/- price tag for each goal to be scored by Karume Boys who face Uganda Rhinos in the CECAFA Under-15 Championship finals on Thursday.

The duo meets at FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru, Uganda in a title-decisive match with the winner walking away with the glittering silverware as a reward for a job well done throughout the contest that kicked off on November 4th.

Breaking the news recently in Zanzibar was the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Youth, Culture and Sports, Fatma Hamad Rajab who thanked the president for the good gesture, saying it will help to boost morale among players.

Karume Boys have had an exceptional ride in the competition, after winning all their three fixtures in Group B with a clean sheet in each match, scoring nine goals.

They launched their campaign with a massive 3-0 victory over Rwanda, thanks to goals converted by Mwinyi Moh’d, Mohamed Salum, and Luqman Othman who utilised well the three scoring opportunities made as the match unfolded.

In their second assignment, they hammered Somalia 4-0 to pocket a maximum of six points from two matches, hence sending signals that they are in Uganda to compete and not to participate.

Thereafter, they had a faceoff against their brothers Tanzania Mainland in their third match of Group B and as the last whistle sounded, the Isles envoys cherished a 2-0 success, to bag nine points from three outings.

However, their tough test came against South Sudan in the semi-finals as the duo secured a 1-1 draw in the 90 minutes of play, forcing post-match penalties to be played to split them, of which Karume Boys emerged 4-2 victors.

Similarly, Uganda who are the CECAFA Under-15 Boys defending champions won all their Group A fixtures without conceding a goal and netting 22 goals in the process, and in their semi-final clash, they produced a 2-1 win over Tanzania mainland.

Based on the available statistics stamped by the two teams, Thursday’s finale is without doubt going to be a thriller.
