Mwinyi confident of CCM’s victory

PRESIDENT Hussein Mwinyi has concluded his two-day political working tour of Pemba Island, expressing confidence that his party, Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), will win the next year’s general election in a peaceful atmosphere.

ZANZIBAR: PRESIDENT Hussein Mwinyi has concluded his two-day political working tour of Pemba Island, expressing confidence that his party, Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), will win the next year’s general election in a peaceful atmosphere.

“I have no doubt whatsoever that the people remain confident in CCM to continue leading Zanzibar and Tanzania as a whole. I also want to reassure voters and the people of the Islands that security and peace will be guaranteed throughout the electoral process,” Dr Mwinyi told party members and supporters in Pemba.

Mwinyi, who is also the CCM Vice-Chairman (Zanzibar), expressed his satisfaction with the support Zanzibaris have shown for CCM as the party continues to fulfil the pledges it made during the election campaigns. However, he urged supporters to ensure they register in the Permanent Voters’ Register to be eligible to vote in the upcoming election.

He visited both the North and South regions of Pemba, meeting with CCM party executives at the grassroots level, urging them to work harder to recruit new members to guarantee victory.

During his tour, he welcomed 165 new members who had defected from the ACT-Wazalendo, ADC, CHADEMA and CUF political parties. Dr Mwinyi urged CCM members and ministers not to be provoked by criticism made by opposition leaders, “instead respond by showing what we have achieved so far in development.

We have left behind nothing in development.” The CCM Vice- Chairman asked the people to ignore unjustifiable claims by the opposition, instead they should maintain peace and security as crucial factors in achieving development goals.

“My government has implemented the CCM election manifesto 2020-2025 by surpassing targets directed by the party in various sectors, including education, health, infrastructure, construction of new markets, economic empowerment of citizens, sports, public servants’ welfare, as well as reforms on pension scheme for the elderly and retired public servants,” he explained.

On the other hand, legislators (MPs and House of Representatives) from constituencies in Pemba donated 1m/- for Dr Mwinyi to run for presidency for the second term in the next year’s general election.

According to the CCM’s Zanzibar Ideology, Publicity and Training Secretary Mr Khamis Mbeto, the donation from the legislators and others to follow shows recognition and support to Dr Mwinyi’s splendid leadership and that he deserves a second term in office.
