Mwinyi appoints new district commissioners

ZANZIBAR: ZANZIBAR President, Hussein Mwinyi, has made a new round of appointments for District Commissioners (DCs) across Unguja and Pemba, in a move aimed at strengthening local government leadership.

According to an official statement released on Friday by the Stone Town based State House, five officials have been appointed to head various districts, with the changes taking effect from yesterday (April 10, 2026).

Among those appointed is Dr Said Haji Mrisho, who takes over as District Commissioner for Mjini District in Unguja.

Prior to his appointment, he served as District Administrative Secretary for the same district. Ms Lailah Durhan Ngozi has been named District Commissioner for Magharibi ‘A’ District, Unguja. She previously worked as a nurse and is also a member of the Central Committee of the ruling party, Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM).

Mr Ali Abdalla Said Natepe has been appointed to lead Magharibi ‘B’ District in Unguja. Before the appointment, he served as Acting Regional Administrative Secretary for Mjini Magharibi Region.

In another appointment, Ms Riziki Daniel Yussuf has been named District Commissioner for Kaskazini ‘A’ District, Unguja. He previously served as Director of Ceremonies and National Events in the Office of the Second Vice-President.

Meanwhile, Ms Zuhura Mgeni Othman has been appointed District Commissioner for Chake Chake District in Pemba.

She previously worked as a Liaison Officer at the Ministry of Tourism and Heritage in Pemba. All the appointed officials are scheduled to be sworn in on Monday, April 13, 2026, at 10:00am at the State House in Zanzibar.

The announcement was issued by the Secretary to the Revolutionary Council and Chief Secretary, Ambassador Engineer Zena Said.
