Mwanza RPC warns against use of defective school buses

MWANZA: OWNERS of private schools with buses for transporting students have been urged to improve their vehicles by conducting repairs to ensure the safety of students during their commutes to and from school.

A warning was issued that those found allowing defective vehicles on the road will face legal action.

This appeal was made today, February 24, 2025, by the Mwanza Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Wilbroad Mutafungwa, during a meeting with all the private school owners in the region. He stated that if any defective student transport vehicle is found on the road, he will ensure it is halted and replaced with a police vehicle to transport the students, and legal measures will be taken against the owner of the defective vehicle.

Furthermore, Commander Mutafungwa assured the school owners that traffic police officers in the region would visit their schools to provide road safety education for students, teachers, and drivers.

On his part, the Chairman of the Private School Owners in the region, Laurent Samike, commended the police force for continuing to control criminal activities and ensuring the peace and safety of the public, which has contributed to a reduction in criminal acts, especially in schools.
