MWANZA Regional Commissioner (RC), Mr Amos Makalla has asked Tanzanians to turn up in large numbers at agricultural exhibitions and festivals, famously known as Nane Nane to showcase their produce for the development of the sector.
He issued the call yesterday in Mwanza City when various agricultural stakeholders from Western Zone regions met for preparations of the event that will commence early next month at Nane Nane grounds, Nyamhongolo, Mwanza.
Mr Makalla said that as 75 per cent of people are involved in agriculture, fishing and animal keeping, so their presence is important to stimulate the growth of the sector which employs many Tanzanians.
He said that the sector produces food and cash crops, while creating many jobs for many Tanzanians, so the gathering will enable people to share experience and knowledge in order to make the value chain in the sector more productive.
“I ask all experts through their research to help farmers increase the value of the agricultural chain by providing productive education so that a major revolution in agriculture can be achieved,” said Mr Makalla.
Mwanza Regional Assistant Administrative Secretary (Economy and Production Sector), Mr Emil Kasagala said that all preparations as well as improvements to the Nane Nane grounds have been completed.
Mr Kasagala said that the infrastructure needed in the area has been improved, so that the event benefit farmers by earning more income at the event that will be held 24 hours a day.
The Coordinator of Nane Nane in Western Zone regions, Mr Peter Kasele said that the aim of the meeting was to make better plans for running the exhibition in the area whereby Mwanza, Geita and Kagera regions will participate.
He said 15 different stakeholders have been shown areas and planted their crops for the exhibitions, while 11 councils have also grown crops for the same purpose.
Mr Kasele said that all the regions in Western Zone Regions have been notified and thus invited participants in the celebration from different areas in their places.
