MWANZA Regional Basketball Association (MRBA) has come up with a plan to support and uplift basketball by conducting clinics every month.
That was revealed here on Thursday by the association’s Chairman Mtaki Sunday during an interview at Mirongo basketball court.
He said plans are to scout and develop further talented players.
“Mwanza has a good number of talents in basketball, a player like Atiki Ally who is currently serving Brigham Young University team of the United States is among the Mwanza region products and his talent was known through the clinics,” he said.
He said the monthly clinics will be held at Mirongo courts and the association will be travelling in various councils of region to conduct the clinics.
He said Atiki Ally should be the catalyst for other young people to fight and play basketball and fulfill their dreams.
According to Sunday, through the clinics, various coaches will be given opportunities to select players for the Inter-Primary and the Inter-Secondary school games.
He called upon basketball fans in Mwanza to unite and support MRBA efforts in conducting the clinics.
Bahati Mgunda, the Dar es Salaam-based basketball coach, has asked Tanzania Basketball Federation (TBF) to keep providing training to the youthful coaches so as to produce quality coaches.
Brigham Young University player, Atiki Ally said he will continue to fight and fulfill his goal of playing basketball in the American League (NBA).
He has asked his fellow Tanzanians not to give up but to continue to fight.
In another development, Atiki has donated four computers to the Nyanza English Medium Primary School in Nyamagana District.
