Muhimbili finds better treatment for incapacitated patients

DAR ES SALAAM: MUHIMBILI National Hospital (MNH) has planned well using modern methods to serve patients who cannot support themselves, including paralyzed patients, elderly people who need help being carried, as well as those who have had accidents or serious injuries, to avoid other health effects during treatment.
Speaking at the conclusion of the training that began recently, and was organized in collaboration with ASK-International, the Director of Midwifery and Nursing Services at the hospital, Redemptha Matindi, said the hospital identified a major gap in the area of patient transportation and transfer, which he explained will bring relief.

“This relief is not only for patients but also for nurses, as they will use modern and safer methods without putting themselves at risk of getting pain or injuries at work.
She added that the main goal is to reduce problems that may arise when a patient is being served, including severe pain, wounds resulting from prolonged lying, so the trainers focused on providing better methods for transferring a patient from one bed to another, from a wheelchair to a bed or vice versa, without causing harm to the patient or the health worker.
In addition, nurses from various wards in Muhimbili, relatives of patients who need help at home, as well as nursing students from Kairuki University, have benefited from this training.
